Abducted Girl Found Alive in Lauderdale

A six year old girl who was abducted from the school library was dumped alive in Lauderdale County. Jashayla Markayia Hopson was abducted around 1 p.m. Tuesday by an adult female that was not authorized to check her out. Hopson was a student at East Kemper Elementary. An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday afternoon for Jashayla. A resident recognized her from the local news and call 911. This was another Amber Alert success.

Florida man called 911 80 times asking for burgers, weed and Kool-Aid

A Florida man who called 911 about 80 times and requested that Kool-Aid, burgers and weed be delivered to him. 34-year-old Jarvis Sutton was arrested and held on a $150 bond. Sutton still remains in Pinellas County Jail.

Tully Ice Harvest Festival

The annual Ice Harvest Festival takes place in Tully, New York, which is around an hour south of Syracuse. The video is from the Festival in Feb. 2009. Gordon Howard is an volunteer. He is the person talking about ice harvesting in the video.
Howard explains the process of how ice is harvest and how it is stored. Howard also explains how to clear the snow, cut it into 18-inch square blocks and transporting the ice to the ice house.

Southern Miss Baseball Player Named Hitter of the Week

Southern Miss senior center fielder Dillion Day, who hit .667 (10 of 15) in USM’s four games last week, was selected as C-USA’s Hitter of the Week. Day hit in all four games last week. Against UAB on Saturday he hit a season-high four hits and had a career-best four runs. Day also hit his first home run since the 2010 season. Day is the fifth different Southern Miss player in the last five weeks to be named either C-USA Hitter or Pitcher of the Week. The award marks the second C-USA honor in his career.

NBA Superstar Michael Jordan tied the knot over the weekend

NBA Superstar Michael Jordan tied the knot over the weekend in front of his closet family and friends. The wedding was held at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea. The reception was took place at the Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Fla. Celebrities Tiger Woods, Patrick Ewing, Spike Lee and Ahmad Rashad was in attendance.

Southern Miss Sweeps UAB

USM baseball completes sweep of UAB Saturday at Taylor Park. The Golden Eagles won the first game 21-6 and the second game 5-4. Southern Miss is still in first place in Conference USA standing. The Golden Eagles are 24-19 overall and 13-5 in league play. Conner Fisk struck out 11 batters in seven innings in the second game. Travis Creel had six hits. Mason Robbins hit 3 home runs. Southern Miss had 21 runs the most since 2011. USM also had 24 hits the most since 2008. Southern Miss takes on Louisiana-Monroe at 6 o clock Tuesday at Taylor Park.

Former Southern Miss Player Drafted

Jamie Collins was pick 20th in the 2nd round of the NFL draft by the New England Patriots. Collins , a native of McCall Creek, MS, started his freshman season at Southern Miss as a safety. The Patriots will begin their season Sept. 8 when they play  the Buffalo Bills.

South City Records Festival 2013

South City Records held their first annual festival in downtown Hattiesburg, MS. Live bands performed. Tents were set up. People ate danced and had a good time.

Bombing at Boston Marathon leaves two dead

Two bombs exploded at the finish line of a Boston Marathon around 2:50 p.m. today. Two people were killed in the explosion including an 8 year old boy. Over 8 dozens were injured in the blast. Hotels in the area were evacuated. Residents are told to stay inside. People that are at work are not allowed to leave. President Obama spoke to the nation at 5:20 p.m. Central today.

Jackson Officer Killed inside Police Department

A shooting at the Jackson Police Department Head Quarters leaves homicide detective Eric Smith  and the suspect dead. Smith, who has been with the department since 1995, was murdered inside an interview room late Thursday afternoon after questioning the 23-year old murder suspect Jeremy Powell inside. Police said in a news release that Powell was in the process of being arrested in the Monday killing of 20-year-old Christopher Alexander. The victim and the suspect got into a heated argument and the suspect overpowered Smith grab his gun and shot him. Around 20 minutes later the victim was shot by another officer. The shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. central. Smith leaves behind a wife and 2 children.
