Best Dunk of the Year??

leave a comment »

The name on NBA fans all over world for the past 6 days has been DeAndre Jordan of the LA Clippers. The 2008 2nd Round draft pick stunned fans on March 10, 13 by executing an “Ally-OOP” style dunk over Detroit’s Brandon Knight. This dunk was surprising to members of both teams, but specifically Knight.

The Dunk was said to be better than any dunk seen by Blake Griffin (#32), a player made popular for dunking. Even Griffin had great feedback saying, “That was the best dunk of the year and the best I’ve seen in person.” Even though his was on the bench at the time of the dunk, he quickly stood up to credit his teammate.

Jordan (#6) added a spark to an already lit flame in the 2nd quarter, as the Clippers were already up leading the game at 57-36. The team is currently ranked #5 with a 45-20 record for the season thanks to leading players along side Jordan like Blake Griffin and Chris Paul.

It is said that the dunk was especially dedicated to Griffin after a dunk his displayed earlier in the same game before he with to the bench for the remainder of the game. The LA Clippers won against Detroit with a final score of  129-97.

Jack Taylor scores 138 points in single game

leave a comment »

Jack Taylor of Grinnell College recently broke the all time record for points ever scored in a single basketball game.  However, fans are on the fence about it asking was it really history or just a stunt.  Taylor scored a record high 138 points.  Los Angeles Lakers’s star Kobe Bryant said, “I mean, I don’t care what level you’re at, scoring 138 points is pretty insane.”  Grinnell’s coach even went so far as breaking down the point strategy, turning it into a math equation where Taylor took a shot every 20 seconds.  This video shows clips from Taylor’s highly successful night and how fans packed the stands to see if both Grinnell and Taylor could pull off a repeat of before. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505266_162-57554001/grinnell-college-basketball-player-jack-taylors-138-point-record-game-a-stunt/

Tunnel collapsed in Japan

leave a comment »

A tunnel in central Japan collapsed earlier today, killing at least three people and starting a major blaze.  Rescue crews had to postpone rescue efforts in fear that another collapse may occur.

Seven people were unaccounted for in the tunnel but only 3 bodies have yet to be found.

One witness described the scene as filled with dense smoke coming out as if it covers the entire mountain.

“When I was driving in the tunnel, concrete pieces fell down suddenly from the ceiling,” a man in his 30s told public broadcaster NHK.  “I saw a crushed car catching fire.  I was frightened, left my car and walked for about an hour to get out of the tunnel.” (Hideyuki Sano)

Recovery efforts are still being put into place.
