A more exciting workout routine

leave a comment »

When we talk about working out, the first thing that pops into my head is going to the gym and lifting weights or running. Usually the second things that pops into my head are team sports, such as: basketball, football, volleyball and swimming.  The last thing I think of, when I think of working out is stuff like ping pong, and spin classes. Well, there are many other nontraditional ways to get in shape. In this day and age, just about anything can be considered “exercise.” Well, since our project was a video story and it had to have “action” in it, I decided to get my roommate who is in much better shape than I am, to show us some of her Zumba techniques since she teaches it. For anybody interested in taking classes, the Payne center offers them several times a week.

**I know it looks awkward with her being alone, my original plan was to record a class, but you guys know how plans go…. I’m just happy she was so accommodating.

Greasy Good Food… and a Potential Lawsuit..?

leave a comment »

The chairman of Waffle House, Joseph Rogers Jr. has been accused of sexually harrassing his personal assistant and house keeper… For around TEN years. The details in the police report were published online by the Marietta Daily Journal. The police report was dated September 28, 2012 and listed accusations of when the woman started working for him in 2003 to May 2012. A Georgia attorney by the name of David Cohen, is one of the attorneys that will be representing the woman and he said, Rogers filed a lawsuit against the woman on September fourteenth, and five days later she in turn filed one against him. However, Cohen did not say what exactly the lawsuits entailed. The report states that, she “was forced to endure the harassment and demeaning treatment by Rogers because she was a single mother and needed her job to support herself and her son.”  It has also been reported that she resigned in June, and her son has received a full scholarship (the article did not say to what school or where the scholarship came from though.)

The link to the story is below, in case anybody wants to read it:

Think before you speak (or type)

with one comment

Denise Helms, a twenty-two year old California woman was removed from her job at Cold Stone Creamery and is currently being investigated by the FBI for her racist and borderline threatening facebook status. Her status said, “Another 4 years of this (N-word), Maybe he will get assassinated this term.” This brings me back to the question I asked in my last blog about Donald Trump, I understand that not everybody is going to be excited with the outcome of the election; but why take it to such extremes where you have to be SO negative and derogatory?  There is a respectful way to go about voicing your opinion, and if Romney would have won the campaign people would have had to voice their opinions in a respectful manner, and regardless of disappointment he still would have been recognized as “our” President, and by “our” I mean America. So why is there such a big difference?

Helms’ facebook has been deactivated, and when asked about her comments this is how she responded:  “The assassination part is kind of harsh. I’m not saying like I would go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen, I don’t think I’d care one bit.”

The video of her interview can be found below:

Donald Trump’s last dance with relevancy…

with one comment

On election night, to say the least Donald Trump was not a happy camper. He took his venting to twitter, tweeting things such as: “This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy.”, “Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.”, “Do we still want a president who bows to the saudis and lets OPEC rip us off? Make America strong vote for @MittRomney”. Those along with several other tweets got the attention of Americans everywhere, which makes me wonder if that is all he wanted. Of course, in America we are all entitled to freedom of speech, but there is a difference between voicing your opinion and being degrading. Plenty of people did not support Mitt Romney’s views, but at the end of the day, if he would have became president it would have been accepted and everybody would have moved on with their life. That was not so easy for Trump, who has since the election continued his rampage tweeting things such as: “The stock market and US dollar are both plunging today. Welcome to @BarackObama’s second term.”, “No surprise that all the foreign countries are celebrating Obama’s win. They love a weak America they can rip off.”

Anyways, his rampage did get him some attention on the news, Brian Williams of NBC, dedicated about 45 seconds to him on the show. Which can be viewed here:

Of Course after that, Trump took to twitter again, this time to attack Williams. To say the least, Trump has been very entertaining this week- extremely disrespectful and unprofessional- but entertaining.

A Whole New Level Of Perversion………

As an optimist, I usually can find the bright side in almost any situation. A lot more negative stories than positive make the news; it has been said and proven that negative news gets spread way quicker than good news, and I guess it is true. Anyways, I was just reading the newspaper online and I stumbled across the sickest most [insert most terrible adjective you can think of here] story that I’ve read in a long time. I understand that abusing elderly people in nursing homes and hospitals is somewhat common, but this story took it a little too far. Basically, two male nurses were hired by an elderly lady who had suffered a stroke and as a result the right side of her body was paralyzed. The nurses were to each work 12 hour shifts at her house and were getting paid $1300 per day, well the lady’s daughter for some reason felt like she was not being taken care of, and only after watching a video tape were her suspicions confirmed. The two male “nurses” were not only engaging in sexual acts with the lady, but also with each other. To say the least, their licenses have been suspended and the  family of the victim has sued the men and their employer for alleged fraud, elder abuse and negligent supervision with a trial date of Jan. 14. Although this story is a few days old, I definitely thought it was still newsworthy and the link to the actual story with video is included.

Mo-Vember: Bad Hygiene, for a Good Cause…

leave a comment »

Considering my last blog was about October and Breast Cancer Awareness month, it’s only right that this blog is dedicated to No Shave November. For a long time, I thought two things. First, I thought it was a joke; and after I realized it wasn’t, I thought it was just a trend allowing it to be acceptable for men to be scruffy for a whole month.  To make a long story short, November has somehow become “Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.” This interesting boycott on shaving started in areas such as Australia and New Zealand, where they originally celebrated “Mo-Vember”, a combination of the words moustache and November. According to the national cancer institute, this form of cancer is typically found in men between the ages of twenty and thirty-nine; and while the numbers are getting higher, as of now about 8,090 are diagnosed yearly.

A different way to promote awareness…

leave a comment »

Considering a larger number of my female family members have breast cancer, I appreciate any and all contributions and support towards finding a cure. With that being said, I am always so excited for October, when people really go out of the way to show their support for the cause. Nothing makes me happier or more proud, than seeing everybody- from professional athletes to random people on the street wearing pink, and wearing it for a reason. Breast cancer walks, fundraisers, parties and charities are the more traditional things I have heard about. So, even though I am a little late the following video caught my attention.  It is a variety of cancer patients at the Seattle Children’s Hospital lip synching Kelly Clarkson’s “stronger”. I think it is so appropriate because, when treating a disease like this wether you are a family member or the person diagnosed, everybody involved fights the battle and you have to have: strength, patience and hope. The fact that this video had 2,926,377 views made me appreciate the human race and the fact that even though we all have bad tendencies we all also have compassion.
