Obama Opens Up

President Barack Obama shows a little more of his soft side in an interview with the Today Show‘s Savannah Guthrie in this interview. He talks about the legacy that former president George W. Bush left upon Obama taking office and, while admitting that the two have conflicting interests on policy, he shows a great respect for Bush’s character and his cooperation with Obama and his team.

As the interview deepens, Guthrie pushes more of the personal side of the president, directing the conversation towards his family. She brings up first lady Michelle Obama‘s statement of feeling as if she were a single mother. The president agrees that often times she is left to raise their two daughters on her own. She asks about his relationship with his daughters and how he stays in touch with their sense of pop culture. He says that his girls keep him pretty well in the loop of what’s cool and what’s not.

He ends the interview with a parenting tip from he and his wife on the issue of tattoos. They told their daughters that if and when they get a tattoo, both he and his wife will get the same tattoo in the same location, in an effort to prevent this in the future and save his daughters some embarrassment.

In my opinion, the interview itself went well, but on the technical and structural aspect, it could’ve been better. Throughout the interview, the were strolling among and outdoor corridor, and the camera was in front of them and it seemed as if the camera man was walking backwards while holding the camera, and it was therefore a shaky image. There were some noticeable edits and cuts that could have been improved as well. One would think that an interview with the president of the United States would be top notch in all aspects.

Inaugurational Ball 2013

leave a comment »

I know this blog post is way over due but I just noticed I never published it =). For those of you who missed the Inauguration Ball after the here is a short clip. I really enjoyed watching Obama and Michelle dancing together. It is clear they really love each other.=) The choice of dress was a perfect match for this occasion. I thought Michelle looked very professional and  exquisite.

CNN hires new president

leave a comment »

CNN recently named Jeff Zucker, former president and chief executive of NBC Universal, president. The new organization said it hired Zucker to be a “magnet of talent” and to broaden the definition of “news” for CNN. What I found most interesting about this Washington Post article is where it said that CNN’s ratings have been hurting for some time. I read another article after the election that said Fox news normally got better ratings than any of it’s competitors, which is surprising because of all the criticism it faces. I watch NBC, Fox and CNN, so I’m not partial to any organization. However, looking at the success Zucker seems to have had, this could be what CNN needs.

With so many television advertisements and full coverage of the 2012 Presidential Election blasted everywhere, it was good to hear how some of the students at The University of Southern Mississippi felt about the two candidates running for office. Take a look.
