Boston Marathon

The horrible tragedy in Boston has once again made our nation stand together as one and pray. I found an incredible article in the Time Lightbox, “Tragedy at the Boston Marathon: One Photographer’s Eye Witness Account.”

When things like this happen in our country, or anywhere in the world really, my first instinct is to be sad. My second instinct is to go there and take pictures. People sometimes give photojournalist a hard time for photographing terrible scenes. But the truth is, we wouldn’t care as much, or pray as much, or give as much support if we couldn’t actually see what’s happened. I believe that seeing the terrible scenes and reliving it as though you were there are what brings us together to love and pray and support one another. Basically, cut photojournalists some slack. You need to see how bad it is in order for you to care.

I took this picture in Cancun next to my hotel. It shows lines as the many concrete blocks stack and line down into the ocean. It’s also a form of depth perspective where the blocks are bigger up close but narrow as they go deeper into the ocean.

This is another picture I took in Cancun. My dad has a pose he does in front of every new place we travel to. This picture shows not only a long/wide shot because it is at a distance. It also displays scale by having my dad standing next to two large pillars.

My friends and I drove around the country when we were bored one day. This is a picture of one of those friends and myself displaying rule of thirds. We are offset from the whole picture making it more interesting with the little house in the background. I added a more vintage filter to make the picture more interesting and appealing to the eye.

Huila, Columbia

During the past year and along with the beginning of this year, I have made a lot of friends in South America. I have five friends from Columbia, two from Peru, and more from other parts. I thought it would be a great topic to share today. =) This country is heavily populated with mountains, as you can see from the picture below. Columbia is very dry. This is because it rarely rains. My friend Juan told me the temperature there right now is 37 degrees. (In Columbia, this is burning hot.) Juan also told me how beautiful Columbia is. I am thinking about traveling there one day to witness the beauty of the country for myself.

Here is a picture of Huila, Columbia where my friend Juan lives.
