Susan Broadbridge: Celebrity before/after photoshop

http://www.buzzfeed.com/jessicamisener/23-celebrities-before-after-photoshop

As a photographer I like to capture people, events and reality as it appears.  Looking at these pictures of celebrities being Photoshopped represents how  sometimes media is a lie.  Media can easily be manipulated and this is a perfect example.   No one looks like that, there is not one person in the world that doesn’t have wrinkles or pimples on their face.  When society looks at pictures like these, they learn or appear to grasp the concept that is how celebrities look like and that is how I should look like.  This pulls people’s self esteem down dramatically.  I once read  that after a young girl or even an older woman looks through a magazine, that they have no confidence in themselves because they look nothing like the images.  This is false advertisement for the world. People would rather appreciate what real women look like in magazines or the internet because they could relate to them. No girl or guy can relate to these airbrushed photos because no one in reality looks like that. People don’t want to live in a world with lies. Who can we trust?  Maybe some people do not realize how much celebrities and models are manipulated through Photoshop.  I feel as if this issue is growing and that people are realizing the problem.  The only thing is that how could you stop magazines and the media from doing this? Can we? Maybe so.  I am sure there are even celebrities that are not okay with their bodies being Photoshopped.  They other problem is that maybe some celebrities do want this to happen.  Some could appreciate that they want to look better for their fans and the world. Hopefully this manipulation will slow down and disappear from socity.

Video: Explosion at Damascus, Syria

leave a comment »

A massive explosion hit a government military research facility and ammunition depot in Damascus, capital of Syria. The Syrian TV, owned by the government, blames the strike on Israel, who did confirm an airstrike on Syria yesterday, but the Syrian Free Army (rebels currently at war with the government) also claimed the attack. The word around twitter is that more explosions are happening at the moment in the area. Local reports also indicate the hearing of sounds of jets before the blast. Hezbollah are claiming a jet has been shot down, Israel hasn’t confirmed.

Some reports in Israel indicate that Syria will declare war in Israel tonight.

Here is a quick recap of the current situation in Syria, according to redditor felagund.

From Dogg To Lion

leave a comment »

Snoop Dogg has recently underwent a somewhat spiritual transformation within himself. This transformation made an impact on his career, music, style, and, most impressionably, his name. Snoop Dogg is now Snoop Lion, and he is a reggae star. His new album and documentary, Reincarnated, has a Bob Marley vibe to it and discusses issues in the world. His single, No Guns Allowed, takes the gun control issue to a whole different level. The song includes his daughter as well as rapper, Drake. Although Snoop Lion’s persona is completely changed, I think a turn-around album is the best thing for his career. Fans will be able to see and appreciate a different side of the young turned old rapper. The album and documentary will allow people to see the shift from young Snoop Dogg to older and wiser Snoop Lion as well as possibly connect with the career choices he has made. I encourage everyone to check out Reincarnated and get informed on social and political matters through the eyes of a role model.

The rapper, Lil Wayne, first paid a visit to the hospital in March due to several seizures that resulted in a stay at the ICU. Ever since he was released, he seemed to be doing fine. However, on the night of Tuesday, April 30th, Lil Wayne was admitted to Cedars-Sinai hospital due to another seizure. Are these seizures signifying an end to not just the rapper’s career but his life as well? We can only hope his health improves. Until then, Lil Wayne, maybe you should start making a lil more healthy decisions.
