The ladies of Phi Mu sorority here at Southern Miss recently hosted their annual Phi Music Fest Dance Competition and Step Show on Friday, April 12, through Saturday, April 13.

The competition was used to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) for the Blair E. Watson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Step Show featured fraternities and sororities across the campus of Southern Miss. Each organization was to choose a song to dance to while incorporating Phi Mu, and CMN in their routine.

A more exciting workout routine

When we talk about working out, the first thing that pops into my head is going to the gym and lifting weights or running. Usually the second things that pops into my head are team sports, such as: basketball, football, volleyball and swimming.  The last thing I think of, when I think of working out is stuff like ping pong, and spin classes. Well, there are many other nontraditional ways to get in shape. In this day and age, just about anything can be considered “exercise.” Well, since our project was a video story and it had to have “action” in it, I decided to get my roommate who is in much better shape than I am, to show us some of her Zumba techniques since she teaches it. For anybody interested in taking classes, the Payne center offers them several times a week.

**I know it looks awkward with her being alone, my original plan was to record a class, but you guys know how plans go…. I’m just happy she was so accommodating.
