leave a comment »

Tully, N.Y., approximately an hour away from Syracuse, N.Y., held an Ice Harvest Festival. During the festival, citizens of the Tully community got to help with the festival as well as learn the steps of which it takes to properly harvest ice. The video provides a distinct sense of direction in how ice harvesting takes place.

Ice Harvest volunteer and Tully native, Gordon Howard, was a faithful volunteer of the Ice Harvest Festival. In the video, he was interviewed in which he discussed the importance of  ice harvesting, how to ice harvest, and the how ice harvesting was used before there were modern-day refrigerators.

Ice harvesting main’s task is to keep things cool for long periods of time. In the past, ice harvesting was used to keep milk cold and any other items that would be necessary for a modern-day refrigerator. Concepts such as ice harvesting paved the way for the refrigerators that we have today.

All in all, the video provides a good explanation and a step-by-step breakdown of how ice harvesting takes place and its importance.
