Memphis Overtakes Reed Green Again

leave a comment »

The Golden Eagle basketball team and supporters gathered in their white out wear at the Reed Green Coliseum February 9th to cheer on a highly anticipated game against the Memphis Tigers.

Southern Miss hasn’t succeeded over the Tigers at home for the last eight out of nine games, so the tension between the teams was thick. Memphis made the first two baskets. Senior Jonathan Mills, number 24, fought back and scored the first points for Southern Miss. Two Golden Eagle sports fans, Nick Carr and Corey Stapp, said, “We missed the game last year, but the rival this year is so much more intense!” Memphis was given a technical foul which gave Dwayne Davis, Golden Eagle player, the opportunity to make two free throws tying the game within the first three minutes.

Southern Miss kept lead for a while, but Memphis led 47-39 as the buzzer sounded for halftime. As for the final score, Memphis came out on top with a thirteen point gain to win the game 89-76. The Tigers once again proved reign over their Southern rival. The Eagles can now take this time to prepare for a rematch at Memphis February 23rd to prove they still have their wings.
