Multimedia StoryTelling

I saw a report on NBC’s Inside Edition about WKBT news anchor Jennifer Livingston addressing on-air an email she received concerning her weight. While this doesn’t necessarily relate to multimedia storytelling, as journalists, we have to ask ourselves if this is appropriate behavior. On one hand, it’s a positive thing for a public figure to stand up against bullying. However, is it appropriate for Livingston to do so when she has a public platform and the writer of the email does not? Is that considered bullying on her behalf? I didn’t think about this until Livingston was called a bully because of the way she publicly handled the situation. Ellen Degeneres tweeted a link to this video which brought in even more viewers. Some support Livingston and others do not. I’m on the fence on the issue because, as I previously said, all forms of bullying need to be stopped, but maybe Livingston became a bully when she publicly responded. Be sure to watch Livingston’s on-air response to the letter and then watch Kenneth Krause’s apology. What are your thoughts?
