Times-Picayune uses video to introduce prison project

I came across this video while I was preparing for my other class, investigative strategies. (Spoiler alert, if you are in that class, too, we’ll be talking about this video in class Wednesday.) But I wanted to share it on our multimedia storytelling blog because it illustrates what we were talking about Monday about how video should complement or augment a story told using other platforms. In this case, the video is used as an introduction to an investigative pieces on prisons by the Times-Picayune. It works as a scene setter and summary. Some people might just watch the video. Others, hopefully, will use the video as an entry point to the larger pieces. Enjoy.

By the way, you’ll notice I did not embed the video, even though that’s my preferred method. That’s because this video used a format that wouldn’t work on this blog.
